PURPOSE:To insulate a lead electrode portion from an electrolyte and to prohibit an electrochemical reaction at the lead electrode portion by screen-printing the lead electrode of an electrochromic display cell with an insulating coating film. CONSTITUTION:A display electrode 2 formed on a substrate 1 is connected with an external terminal 3 through a lead electrode portion 4. In order to clearly form the edge of an electrode segment on the electrode 2, metal 7 of Cu is evaporated in advance in the form of a segment pattern. After that, an insulating thin film 8 such as TiO2 is evaporated all over the surface excepting the terminal 3. The electrode portion 4 is printed in the form of a pattern glass frit, which is excellent in chemical resisting property and highly transparent, with the use of a screen of 200 to 400 meshes and then is subjected to a heat treatment thereby to form an insulating coating film 6. Finally, the metal 7 is lifted off to expose the electrode 2 to the outside. Thus, the working operations can be simplified while elongating the lift of the cell and increasing the industrial yield. |
