1533861 Polymeric imides DR KURT HERBERTS & CO GmbH 1 Dec 1975 49218/75 Heading C3P Water - dilutable polymeric imides are obtained by subjecting a polymeric oil derived from a conjugated diene to either (1) reaction with anα,#-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, followed by partial conversion of the carboxylic groups to imide groups, e.g. by reaction with ammonia, or urea, or (2) reaction with an imide of anα,#-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid. The products contain 20-35 m.eq./gram of carboxylic groups and 03-20 m.eq./gram of imide groups, and may be neutralized. In examples, either 1,4-cispolybutadiene oil or a mixture thereof with 1,3- polypentadiene oil is reacted with maleic anhydride, then partially imidized by reaction with urea, and finally neutralized with triethylamine. |
