The invention comprises a process for the manufacture of pure p-t.-butylphenol by the reaction of phenol with isobutylane in the presence of catalysts, wherein the reaction mixture obtained is crystallized at 0‹ to 20‹ C., then comminuted and split at temperatures in the range of from 40‹ to 70‹ C., preferably 50‹ to 60‹ C., into a liquid portion containing the by-products and a crystalline portion containing the p-t.-butylphenol, and if desired, the latter is washed with an aliphatic hydrocarbon. |
