<p>The process is particularly for the application of preservative chemicals to moist grains of wheat and uses a hopper into which the granular material is delivered at the top. A valve at the bottom of the hopper is actuated by the weight of material in the hopper and discharges the material in a ring-shaped curtain. The liquid emerges from an application unit below the hooper, being aimed so as to strike the falling grains. Means are included for regulating the degree of opening of the valve to match the speed of application of the liquid. The valve can be in the form of an inverted cone thrust against the bottom of the hopper, and shutting when the hopper is empty.</p> |
