Magnesium N-(2- and 3-thenoyl)glycinates of formula (I) are new. (I) are prepd. by the reaction of glycine with a 2- or 3-thenoyl halide, to give the N-thenoyl glycine, and conversion of this into the magnesium salt, such as by treatment with magnesium hydroxy carbonate (4MgCO3.Mg(OH)2.5H2O). (I) may be given orally or parenterally, the unit dose being 0.1-1.5g and the daily dosage being 0.1-4.5g.
