A seal profile comprises a composite extrudate of a rigid material (I) and a softer, elastic material (II) so that (I) forms a pair of longitudinal blades linked by a rectangular sub-profile made of (II). This composite profile may be used alone or in conjunction with a second barbed tubular profile which can be set into e.g. concrete foundations and carries a superficial (hollow) rib to engage the feet of the first profile. Pref. (I) and (II) are of rigid and flexible PVC respectively. Used esp. for providing a closed seal between large slabs of concrete/masonry/stonework etc. exposed in internal or external situations. The semi-rigid profiles are fitted more easily and more securely than traditional spacers of e.g. brass shim. The elasticity of the seal compensates for variation in the gap between adjacent slabs due to differential thermal contraction, preventing the gap from becoming clogged with dirt, etc. and thus inhibiting dimensional recovery.
|
