1,020,607. Fuel cells. ALLIS-CHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 7, 1964 [Aug. 9, 1963], No. 32208/64. Heading H1B. Excess water produced in an H 2 /O 2 fuel cell is evacuated through a permeable membrane impregnated with a solute and solvent so chosen that it has a lower partial pressure of water than the electrolyte and from the latter therefore water migrates into the membrane. Water is removed from the other face of the membrane by evaporation (thus cooling the cell) into a space in which the partial pressure of water is kept still lower than that in the membrane. A cell is disclosed. |
