The optical instrument diaphragm overcomes diffraction fringing effects limiting the separation ability of such instruments. The diaphragm consists of a rectangular cross of a thin metal sheet. Light can be propagated freely at the centre square of the cross. Squares forming the arms of the cross provide diffraction. The squares between the arms of the cross are completely opaque. The diaphragm is used in laboratory or industrial optical devices for diffraction, non-diffraction or opaque parts.
|
