1,108,654. Drive for winches. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. 5 Jan., 1967 [23 Nov., 1966], No. 795/67. Heading B8B. [Also in Division H2] A windlass drive for the drag nets used in trawlers comprises an electric motor whose torque-speed characteristic is such that the windlass is driven at a constant power output over a range of speeds to maintain constant tension in the hawser. The motor may be of the squirrel-cage type and adapted for polechanging in accordance with speed. At high speeds, constant tension of the hawser is maintained by varying the speed of the ship. If the net is caught during a dragging operation, the ship is positioned above the net and the motor is operated at constant torque over a wide range of speeds in either direction of rotation. |
