Calorimeter for measuring specific heat - has reduced low temp. effect by arrangement of adiabatic shield and sample holder

The calorimeter is designed to overcome errors arising from Kapitza effect in the solid-gas interface. It is used for the determination of specific heat between 1.5K and 300K. The sample is held in a vacuum-tight holder filled with a small amount of helium. The holder is suspended by nylon threads in an adiabatic shield, the temp. of the latter being held constant with that of the holder. Both components are enclosed by a vacuum vessel filled with a contact gas. Both have separate heaters. The vacuum pump itself is located outside the vacuum vessel but at the same temp.
