<p>Food products for rodents contain a high proportion of water and are in the form of sausages having a natural or synthetic casing. The water content is usually 50-80% by wt. and the filling may contain a coagulating agent such as a starch. The remainder of the filling is pref. a sterilisable mouse or ratefood. The casing may be natural, such as gut, or synthetic such as polyester. The foods are suitable for laboratory animals and for animals when travelling. If a poison is incorporated, such as coumarene, the products are suitable as rodenticides. By having the food in sausage form, it is not scattered by rodents and keeps well. The high proportion of water provides, at least partially, the needs of the animals for drinking water.</p> |
