The monitor is for machine tools, esp. presses having a mechanical plunger drive. The drive shaft carries rotating control discs to interrupt the control current if the drive elements fail. The shaft (1) to be monitored has a control disc (2, 3) on the drive and the take-off side, which are positioned and fixed relative to each other. The discs have a corresponding number of control lugs. The first disc carries two non-contacting instrument transformers (4, 5). The second control disc has a similar transformer (6), the signals of which are evaluated via logic circuits (15).
