<p>Prepn. of organomagnesium cpds. of formulae RMgX and R2Mg(R=1-20C (cyclo)alkyl, aryl or aralkyl, X=halo) comprises reacting comminuted Mg with RX. The Mg used has been ground in an inert solvent under a protective atmos. with addition of >=1 organometallic cpd. (II) of Group IIb and/or IIIa elements, and an organomagnesium cpd. (III) is added before the reaction. (III) may be added before or during grinding, or to the ground Mg. Pref. (II) have formula RnMYm-n (m, valency of M, is 2 or 3. n = 1 or 2 (if m=2) or 1-3 (cf m=3)). M is Zn, B or Al; Y is halo, alkoxy or, when M = Al, n=2 and R= 1-10C alkyl, also H). Reliable initiation of the reaction is achieved; reaction times are reduced and yields are improved.</p> |
