A plasticised PVC compsn. contains (a) 5-120 pts. wt. of a normal PVC plasticiser, (b) 0.1-5 pts. wt. of a pair of organic acid salts of Ca and Zn, (c) 0.03-1 pts. wt. of a linear polyol with is not 4 OH gps., of which is not S1 is a prim. alcoholic OH gp. and (d) 0.05-5 pts. wt. or a cpd. of formula R1-CO-CHR2-CO-R (I) (where R1 and R3 are (un)branched 36C alk(en)yl gps., 7-36C aralkyl gps. or 14C aryl or cycloaliphatic gps. gp. opt. contg. C=C bonds, opt. substd. by halogen, by aryl or cycloaliphatic gps. or by (m)ethyl, or may be modified by is not 1 -O-, -CO-O-, or -CO- in the aliphatic chain and may also form together a 2-5C alkylene gp., opt. carrying O or N; and R2 is h, 36C alk(en)yl opt. carrying -O-, -CO-O- or -CO- gps., a radical of formula -CO-R4, where R4 is 1-36C alkyl or is aryl, a radical of formula where R5 is 1-6C alkyl; in addn., in in r1 and r3, the C atom linked to the CO gp. is free from ethylenic, carbonyl or aromatic unsaturation, one of R1 or R3 may be H; and R1 and R2 together may form a 7-36C aralkylene gp., or a 14C arylene or cycloaliphatic gp., opt contg. C=C bonds; and where these gps. may opt. be substd. by halogen, by aryl or cycloaliphatic gps., or by (m)ethyl, and may also be modified by -O-, -CO-O- or -CO- in the aliphatic chain. The compsn. contains no toxic component, gives colourless, transparent goods, and does not change colour after 1 hour at 180 degrees C. Addn of the polyol greatly improves the heat stability. The compsns. are suitable for food applications. |
