<p>Prior to cutting, dummy plate (a) is clamped underneath the slab to cover the bottom edge of the line along which the slab is to be cut. The slab and plate (a) are then cut simultaneously, followed by removing the cut plate (a) from the two cut ends of the slab. The pref. device consists of a metal plate held by clamps against the slab, a striper knife or similar device being used to remove the two cut pieces of the plate (a) at the end of flame cutting. The length of plate (a) pref. coincides with the width of the slab. Formation of a "beard" of slag on the bottom edge of the ends of the cut slabs, is avoided.</p> |
