In the case of the connection, which has a connecting body which accommodates the optical fibres and in which two guide members (7, 8) coupling the optical fibre ends are arranged with abutting end faces, the ends of the optical fibres being terminated flush with the associated ends of the guide members, the aim is to achieve that the connecting elements are relatively insensitive to mechanical stresses and can be produced with high precision. For this purpose, the guide members (7, 8) consist of clock/watch stones on an aluminium oxide base, preferably of ruby material. The surface of the cladding can be curved in longitudinal section about a point situated on the longitudinal axis, the clock/watch stones then being connected to one another by a sleeve (10) into which they are pressed. <IMAGE>
