The peat-digging machine has a frame (10) with a hitch (13) for attachment to a tractor. Two lateral frame sections (15, 16) are distant from a central one (14) for more than half the working width of the machine on opposite sides and joined to it by cross-members (17 - 19; 21 - 23). Two axles (33) are fixed between the central section and the lateral one, being inclined at their mounting points (24-26) on the central one for at least 20 deg. to the rear in relation to the transverse axis of the machine. A set of dish-section discs with sharp edges is mounted on each axle, means being provided to prevent them sliding on the latter, and between each pair of adjacent discs is a cylindrical guide sleeve, its external diameter being between 30 and 50mm less than that of te discs. Where disc diameter is 500mm, the axial length of each sleeve is no more than 40mm.
