Disinfecting appts. having a pair of main electrodes (5,6) on opposite sides of a bank of auxiliary electrodes (7) has the direction of the potential applied to the main electrodes periodically reversed. Used for disinfecting liquids by anodic oxidation. Efficiency of disinfection is increased and continuous disinfection is possible also during cleaning of main electrodes.
