The bright polished surface of a plastic foil e.g. polypropylene is coated with a thin metal film, followed by covering the metal with a clear lacquer e.g. polyurethane lacquer and/or adhesive. The laminate is then pressed against the surface of a substrate so the layer is in contact with the substrate. After any drying and/or hardening required, foil is removed, leaving the metallised substrate. The process is pref. used continuously. The substrate is paper, paperboard, cardboard, wood, or plastics; and metal (c) can be applied to foil (d) by vacuum metallisation, or electrolytic- or chemical-deposition.
|
