Automatic determination of phenolsulphonphthalein in urine - using standard in alkaline soln. for automatic colorimetric comparison

The presence of phenolsulphonphthalein (PSP) in urine is automatically determined by the addn. of an equal quantity of an alkaline colour reagent soln. to develop the colour in a 100% soln. The same alkaline soln. is added to urine samples taken from a patient over a series of time intervals. The reagent should have pigments stable in alkaline soln. The absorption for various wavelengths is then measured. The concn. is then calculated by a microprocessor which calculates the amt. of PSP passed by the patient over the time intervals involved. For use in checking the kidney and blood circulation of a patient by intravenous injection of PSP. Allows the urine samples subsequently collected to be automatically analysed.
