A device for treating renal insufficiency by dialysis and ultrafiltration, including a dialyzer and a filter provided in a common housing with the dialyzer and filter membranes arranged in a stack, a common blood inlet 27 being provided to pass blood over primary sides of the filter and dialyzer membranes, whereas the outlet 33 for dialysate from the secondary sides of the dialyzer membranes is separated from the outlet 32 for ultrafiltrate from the secondary sides of the filter membranes. In the embodiment shown, the dialyzer membranes 30 and filter membranes 31 take the form of flattened tubes containing supports but other forms are disclosed and the dialyzer and filter need not be in the same housing. The blood may flow through the dialyzer and filter in series or parallel.
