The automatic hatch cover end sealing arrangement applies to multi-element covers on rollers, with a flexible strip in one element bearing down on an edge projecting upwards from the next. The operating lever (32) for the seal-pressuring catches mounted on a rotatable horizontal shaft (20) parallel to the element end is fitted with a projecting nose (34) angled about 60 deg. ahead of the lever centreline in the closing direction. In conjunction with a stop (36) on the adjoining element this pre-rotates (A - B) the shaft during closure, increasing the potential catch rotation between open (A) and locked (C) position.
