A CYLINDER HEAD CONSTRUCTION FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE A cylinder head construction for a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine is disclosed, said head providing decreased valve wear without use of expensive inserts. The use of a hypereutectic aluminum-silicon alloy, preferably containing controlled amounts of copper and magnesium, is deployed for the head casting. Valves operating within said casting are fabricated of a ferrous based material which retains strength under high temperature conditions, the valve is provided with a hard facing along the valve lip which engages the valve seat. The facing consists essentially of a cobalt-chromium alloy containing preferably by weight 5% tungsten and 10% carbon, the chromium being limited to about 26%.
|
