PURPOSE:To enhance the responsiveness of phase controlling and improve printing speed by generating pulses for respective phases with a phase pulse group generating circuit, discriminating and detecting the time intervals of passing phase searching electrode 3 and obtaining outputs with the phase at whic hoptimum separation of ink drops is caused. CONSTITUTION:At the time of phase searching mode, the phase searching signal of a phase searching signal generating circuit 12 is amplified with a video amplifier 13 and is applied to a charging electrode 2 by turning ON SW1 to charge the ink drops flying from an ink drop forming nozzle 1. The ink drops are then recovered in a gutter 5 through a locus C. The charges of the ink drops are electrostatically detected while they pass the charge searching electrode 3 and the optimum charge phase is detected with a dropping phase discriminating and judging circuit 17, thence a charge phase setting circuit 14 is set. (n) phase pulse generating circuits are provided to the above phase searching signal generating circuit 12 to generate pulse groups for respective phases and supply the same to the phases searching electrode 3. And the time intervals at which the charge particles pass the electrode 3 are detected with the dropping phase discriminating and judging circuit 17, whereby the charge phase of the charge phase setting circuit 14 is set. |
