PURPOSE:To obtain non-magnetic steel products with stabilized magnetic characteristics and considerably improved mechanical properties by adding Mn; 5-30% as an essential component and limiting the contents of C, N, Mn, Cu and Ni, and working and heat treatment conditions. CONSTITUTION:A steel is refined which contains Mn; 5-30% as an essential component and satisfies (100/9)(C+N)+2(Mn+Cu+2Ni)>=25% with respect to the contents of C, N, Mn, Cu and Ni. Thus, by adding the austenite stabilizing component, stable non-magnetism can be ensured without using a large amt. of Ni and other austenite forming elements. The Mn steel is heated to 850-1300 deg.C, rolled or forged at above 350 deg.C, and cooled to ordinary temp. at a rate above 1 deg./ sec, whereby iron carbide is dispersed and precipitated in the matrix during the working, exhibiting a remarkable strengthening action to the steel. |
