[Also in Division F1] A device for filling teeth with dental amalgam comprises a container 22, in the form of a spiral strip spring which is collapsible to eject its contents. The container 22 is carried in a barrel 10 with one end adjacent an opening over which a nozzle is connected at an angle to the barrel. The other end is connected to a plunger 27 which, on projection by a knob 44, collapses the container to eject amalgam into a space 61 in the barrel. A spring-urged retractable stop 33 progressively engages annular grooves 28 in the plunger to arrest its movement after the ejection of a small quantity of amalgam. Outer and inner plungers 45, 46 in a tube 16 in alignment with the nozzle are projected on pressing a knob 60 attached to a piston 58 to eject amalgam in the space 61 through the nozzle. The inner plunger 45 passes through the nozzle and may be used to press the amalgam in the tooth cavity. The plungers 44, 46 are interconnected by springs 48, 50 to inner and outer plungers 49, 51 which are operated by the piston 58. Mercury may be contained in a bore 42 in the plunger 27, a rubber piston 41 being projectible by a knob 40 to discharge small amounts of mercury through a nozzle 26 into the container 22 to restore the plasticity of the amalgam if it begins to set. |
