1,077,531. Mowing machines. TEXAS INDUSTRIES Inc. Sept. 22, 1964 [Oct. 8, 1963], No. 38696/64. Heading A1F. In a tractor-mounted mower wherein the knife-bar is driven from the tractor by means including a belt-drive 59, one of the pulleys 42 of the belt-drive is mounted in an eccentric bearing about the axis of which is can be adjusted by a hand-lever 30 to tighten or loosen the belt. The mower is mounted on the tractor by means of a frame 1, 4 having connections 76, 78 to receive tractor hitch-links. The mower drag-bar 14 is pivotally mounted on a housing 9 which is itself swingably mounted on the frame 1, 4 about a vertical pivot 10 so as to be able to breakback in the event of the mower's encountering an obstruction. The belt 59 is partly covered by a hood 34 the forward edge of which acts as a detent to retain the lever 30, which is spring-loaded in any adjusted position. An arm 65 freely mounted on the pivot 10 carries a belt 67 the clapper 68 of which is normally just clear of the crank-disc 51 which drives the connecting rod 57 of the mower. When the mower breaks back, however, the crank-disc 51 contacts the clapper and gives an audible signal to the tractordriver. To avoid too violent a contact between the crank-disc and clapper, the arm 65 carries a plunger (Fig. 9, not shown) causing the arm and bell to move with the drag-bar as soon as the latter has moved far enough to actuate the audible signal. |
