The coffee maker and alarm clock (7) has a control circuit which includes a switch (1) having a "stop" position (b) and an "auomatic" position (c). The circuit also has a principal control relay (R) which is inserted between the switch and coffee maker (7). The relay ensures energisation of the coffee maker when the switch is in the automatic position. The control circuit for the principal relay includes a thyristor (T) and a programmable timer (14) connected to the thyristor (T). The appliance has a supply interruption element and a control relay for an alarm. The alarm is connected to the principal relay and appliance so that it is actuated when the appliance is defective or the supply is interrupted.
