Textile fibres are applied by sewing, tufting, glueing or flocking to a transfer sheet which has been coated, in accordance with the pattern selected, with at least one heat-transferable dye. The textile sheet structure obtained is then heated to a temperature at which the dye(s) is or are transferred to the textile fibres. After dye transfer is complete, the transfer sheet is still part of the textile sheet structure. The process is suitable in particular for producing colour-patterned thick and heavy textile products because in this manner it is not the difficult-to-handle textile product, for example a carpet, which has to be printed but only the thin, lightweight transfer sheet.
