It serves for the compressive texturing of filament yarns consisting of synthetic polymers by the use of flowing hot gases and has three chambers (1, 2, 3) arranged in succession. The first chamber, which can contain at its lower end means (5) for generating a flow which is not axially symmetrical, guides the flow medium. Between the first and the second chamber is located the suck-in point for the thread (6) sucked in at an angle to the direction of flow. The second chamber serves for heating the thread. The third chamber is a compression chamber. It is formed by thin bars held on one side at the end of the second chamber and having two different lengths (9e, 9k). These bars are distributed over the circumference of a cylinder or truncated cone, the long and the short bars preferably being arranged alternately. The device, which is especially suitable for the texturing of carpet yarns, brings about a significant improvement in the degree of texturing and in the thread strength. <IMAGE>
