The slot antenna consists of a length of rectangular cross-section tubing (G) having a curved slot (D) of constant width extending along one side. The energising coupling (A) from the space surrounding the antenna to a point in the slot (D) is proportional to the square of the sine function pix/a where x is the distance of the trace of the slot, measured laterally of the tubing, from the slot start, and a is the width of the side of the tubing in which the slot is formed. The equation of the slot trace is given by x = a/pi Arc sin sin square root 1/k P/1 - integral z/l P(epsilon) d epsilon Where L = slot length, z = a point on the slot, P = the radiated energy at point Z, and epsilon = z/l. The slot is preferably covered with a teflon (RTM) sheet of 0.5 mm thick to keep out dirt. A typical antenna has a slot length of 12 lambda and width 4.6 mm where lambda = 2.6cm. The tubing dimensions are 16 mm x 7 mm.
|
