PURPOSE:To provide the subject process comprising charging a suitable quantity of phosphor us in the period from the start of oxidation treatment to reduction treatment and that of Ca in the period from the start of reduction treatment to the start of casting thereby to obtain electroconductive copper from which lead has been removed or reduced. CONSTITUTION:In refining copper by melting a copper material containing copper scraps, in a period selected between the start of oxidation treatment to reduction treatment, 0.03 to 0.3% of phosphorus is charged into the copper material in the form of a Cu-10% P mother alloy. By this process, Pb can be greatly reduced and considerable quantities of Fe and Sn can also be removed. While carrying out the reduction treatment by the charging of phosphorus, a suitable quantity of Ca is charged in the copper material in the form of a Cu-5% Ca mother alloy. Further, boring is continued, and when the oxygen content is reduced to about 500 ppm, 0.02% of Ca is charged the rein. By this charging operation, impurities can be removed from the copper material containing impurities such as Pb, Sn and the like in a short period of time, easily and economically without requiring special facilities, complicating melting and casting steps, and also increasing consumptive loss of copper.
|
