<p>Development of electrostatic latent (charge) images is carried out with a developer carrier which has, on one side, a developer of fine particles with an organic semiconductor and is insulating in the normal state. This is placed near the charge image carrier surface, so that electric charges are injected into the developer from the developer carrier by an electric field formed between the 2 carriers and the charge image is developed with the developer. Pref. the developer is retained on the carrier mainly by magnetic attraction. The distance between the 2 carriers is 50 mu m to 5mm. The developer contains min. 0.1pt. wt. organic semiconductor (I) in 100 pts. binder resin. The surface of the developer carrier, which pref. is a magnetic rotary drum of conductive material, has a coating of inorganic semiconductor (II). The process is highly effective and gives good quality copies, avoiding the usual problems of dry development with a one-component developer system.</p> |
