Transporter position signal generator for machine press - has programmable memory storing position coordinates and addressed by coded signals representing ram position for short cycle time

A signal for positioning the transporter/gripper of a machine press is generated which ensures short cycle times and easy conversion of the press to new processes. A path coder is connected directly, or indirectly via a non-linear element such as a crankshaft, to the press ram. The coder generates signals corresponding to successive path intervals and is connected to a programmable memory. The memory has storage locations corresponding in number to the number of path intervals. Transporter coordinates which are a given function of the path intervals are stored. The output of the memory is connected to a comparator for positioning the transporter.
