PURPOSE:To provide the subject core wire wherein the outer surface thereof is insulated, and thereafter coated with a coating agent containing a conductive substance, thereby to afford an insulation yield strength with respect to a secondary no-load voltage of a welding power source and secure the safety of the welding operation. CONSTITUTION:A soft core wire is coated with insulating substances such as silicates, natural and synthetic resins and cottons, having an insulation yield strength with respect to a secondary no-load voltage (3KVmm<-1>) of the welding power source in a thickness of 10 to 500 microns. Then, the core wire is coated with a coating material containing more than 50% by weight of a conductive substance such as Fe powder, Fe-Si powder, Fe-Mn powder or the like. By applying insulation treatment to the core wire for use in the welding rod in this manner, the insulation of the welding rod becomes excellent and weldability is stabilized. |
