Preparation of dispersions, especially of cerium compounds. The use of the process according to the invention gives an aqueous dispersion of cerium oxide or hydrated cerium oxide and involves the acid treatment of cerium(IV) hydroxide. The aqueous dispersions prepared according to the invention can be used in several technical fields (e.g. for the preparation of compact cerium oxide coatings for use as a catalyst, as well as for the preparation of protective coatings e.g. for metals and alloys).
