1,225,894. Portable electric drill; chucks. JACOBS MFG. CO. 7 March, 1969 [19 March, 1968], No. 12160/69. Headings B3B and B3C. A rotary tool, e.g. a portable electrical drill (Fig. 1), includes a chuck 26 having a body 25 formed as a unitary member with a chuck drive gear 24, the body being supported for rotation on a pin 27 extending axially forwardly from a transverse wall 21 of the housing 10. A nose cap 47 covers the drive gear 24 and the driven pinion 23 on the end of the shaft of electric motor 12, and also retains the chuck body on the bearing pin 27, allowing limited axial movement of the chuck body thereon. The three jaws 36 are slidable in respective grooves 34 in the body via a toothed ring 39 rotated by a pinion engaging a bevel gear 43 on a collar 41 to which ring 39 is secured. The chuck drive gear 24 may be press-fitted to the chuck body 25. The bearing pin 27 may be of a material having inherent lubricating properties, such as oil-impregnated powder metal. |
