A process for the continuous casting of metals employs an immersed (silica) nozzle and masking powder 21, and molten metal 18 is caused to rotate, within a (copper) mould 2 around the axis 17 of casting by means of a rotating magnetic field. The masking powder has a melting point in the order of 1000 DEG C-1200 DEG C and a viscosity, at the temperature of the molten metal, of between 0.3 poise and 3 poise. The castings may be extracted at a speed in excess of 1 m/mn, in which case the powder employed has a viscosity, at the temperature of the molten metal, of between 0.3 poise and 1 poise. Alternatively, the castings may be extracted at a speed of less than 1 m/mn in which case the masking powder employed has a viscosity, at the temperature of the molten metal, of between 1 poise and 3 poise.

|
