1,053,351. Coating with metals. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. June 9, 1965 [June 26, 1964], No. 24330/65. Heading C7F. Ni-Al-Ta coatings are formed on specific areas of Ni base alloys, defined by masks, by painting, dipping, spraying or blasting the substrate with a mixture of Al and Ta powders in a slurry of an organic dispersant and bonding the mixture onto the substrate by heating at 982 ‹-1149 ‹C. in hydrogen, argon or in vacuum. Further heating at 982 ‹ -1232 ‹C. creates a stratified coating including three layers of varying Ni; Al composition. The dispersant may be selected from one or more of an alcohol ester or ketone and can contain a binding agent e.g. nitrocellulose, naphthalene and stearates and a wetting agent, the slurry being formed by ballmilling. The powder mixture contains 50-80% Ta and, the coating 1-10% Ta. The alloy contains at least 40% Ni and C, Cr, Co, V, W, Mo, Ti, or Al and is precleaned before coating. |
