1,132,854. Substituted anilides. ASPRONICHOLAS Ltd. 25 March, 1966 [27 March, 1965; 22 Sept., 1965], Nos. 13088/65 and 40329/65. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] Novel anilides of the general formula wherein R represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms, R 1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group and R 2 represents an aliphatic acyl or carbocyclic aroyl group having from 2 to 10 carbon atoms with the proviso that (a) when R 1 represents hydrogen and R 2 represents an acetyl group, then R is not an alkyl or isoamyl group in an ortho position with respect to the OR 1 substituent, (b) when R 1 is methyl or ethyl and R 2 is acetyl, then R is not an isopropyl, t-butyl or cyclohexyl group in an ortho position with respect to the OR 1 substituent, (c) when R 1 is hydrogen and R 2 is benzoyl, then R is not isopropyl in a meta position with respect to the OR 1 substituent, and (d) when R 1 is hydrogen and R 2 is n-hexoyl, then R is not n-hexyl in an ortho position with respect to the OR 1 substituent, are prepared by acylating the required substituted aniline and, in the case where a required p-aminophenol is used as the reactant, alkylating the resulting R-substituted 4-acylaminophenol or 4-aroylaminophenol to form a desired compound wherein R 1 is alkyl. R-substituted-4-aminophenols where R has the above significance, are prepared by coupling the alkali metal salt of the required R-substituted-phenol with a diazonium salt and reducing the resulting azo compound. |
