1,036,018. Yarn packages. ONDERZOEKINGSINSTITUUT RESEARCH N.V. Dec. 18, 1963 [Dec. 19, 1962], No. 50036/63. Heading B8M. Barre effects in fabrics which are due to winding drawn yarn of a polyamide or a polyester &c. into a package such that the yarn in the middle of the package has a lower modulus of elasticity than the yarn in the inner or outer portions of the package is avoided by ensuring that all the points in a yarn layer formed by any one traverse stroke lie substantially in a surface of constant modulus of elasticity. This is achieved by winding the package initially with a diminishing traverse stroke to form a first portion and then with an increasing traverse stroke to form a contiguous second portion which covers the first portion-the transition between the two portions being at or near the point of minimum modulus of elasticity. The reversal points of the yarn layers lie in a substantially conical surface at each end of the package. Preferably the traverse speed is programmed to ensure that each yarn layer lies in a surface of constant modulus of elasticity. The packages may have various shapes, Figs. 1, 3, 7-15 (not shown). |
