To displace a liquid 9 through a rigid conduit 8 flexible chambers 1... 5 are periodically and sequentially expanded, as shown, by a pressurized fluid e.g. air or oil, under the control of a unit 7, which may include a rotary valve-block 14 driven by a motor 10 and having a pair of ports connecting pipes 24, 25 for each of the chambers to inlet and exhaust ports 23, 26 in the desired sequence. A casing 15 terminating at a streamlined protuberance 6 supports the chambers. Alternatively, the casing houses a pipe 27 through which the fluid aforesaid enters the chambers whenever corresponding valves open in response to pressure applied thereto through respective ducts 33. The valve for each chamber is spring- loaded to allow the fluid to escape through an exit 36 when the pressure in the duct 33 is removed. |
