The moistening head for a label printer comprises a horizontal support for a flat pad (3) of felt or foam material. This forms the base of a tray which also holds a bottle (7) containing the liquid to be used for moistening the labels. A tapered felt or foam plug (6) in the neck of the inverted vertical bottle fits into a hole (8) in the pad. This provides a direct path for the fluid onto the pad. At one side, this pad has an upturned lip (4) which is extended to permanently contact the moistening roller (5) of the machine.
