The device inside an extruder barrel has a recess of constant cross-section over its entire length. A wearing inset whose cross-section fits that of the recess is arranged in it, in that it is defined only by convex, concave or straight curves without any corners. The gap between wearing inset and screw barrel contains a packing. Outside the inset there is >=1 line for conveying a tempering medium. In addn., a coiled tube is fitted in the gap between wearing inset and screw barrel. The packing between the coils of the tube comprises a hardenable material, e.g. thermo-putty, epoxy resin or a low-melting metal alloy. The device has a relatively simple construction, yet outstandingly efficient heat-transfer. |
