Fuel cells comprise an insulating porous supporting structure, cathode formed from catalytically active pulverous material contacting one side of the supporting structure, a gauge electrode on the other side and means for conveying a solution containing fuel to the gauge electrode and means for conveying oxygen to the cathode. Preferably the cathode comprises carbon powder activated by Cu, Ag, Au, Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir or Pt held in position by a current collecting gauge; the supporting structure is asbestos, ceramic or plastics material, the ogxyen is supplied as air, and the fuel is hydrazine dissolved in an aq. KOH electrolyte. |
