PURPOSE:To detect a character in the area other than a center hold part occurring at a folded part of a booklet-form medium by converting data judged to be black at and around the center hold to white data. CONSTITUTION:Data obtained by scanning a booklet-form medium 2 by an optical sensor 6 is stored in a memory 11, and the data is edited to detect a printing by a control part 13. At this time, a noise detected at and around a center hold part 8 of the booklet-form medium 2 prevents the data on the part from being used as a printing detection part. In the memory 11, an area B is detected for a printing part, and an area C is detected for a center hold part. In the respective areas, '1' is optical data when a black part on the printing medium is detected, and '0' is optical data when a white part on the printing medium is detected. In this manner, a character can be detected in the area B except the center hold part and thereabouts. |
