1,158,219. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 Nov., 1966 [19 Nov., 1966], No. 52164/67. Heading H1D. The shadow mask 2 of a colour television tube is mounted in a rectangular frame 3 supported by at least three support members each in the form of two parallel strips 5 and 6 bent over at their ends to form a parallelogram, if necessary with the aid of auxiliary strips. The bent-over ends may be strengthened by auxiliary strips and the straight parts may be strengthened by pressing ribs into them so that thermal expansion causes deformation of the corners of the parallelogram, and any movement of the shadow mask is along the direction of the beam if the sides of the parallelogram are normal to this direction. The support member is provided with a triangular aperture that fits over a conical glass cam 4 provided on the face of the tube. In modifications (Figs. 2-4, not shown) the aperture is provided in an auxiliary strip secured to the bent-over ends of strips 5 and 6; the opposite bent-over ends may be secured directly to the frame 3 (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) instead of being secured to each other. There are preferably four supporting members, one secured to the centre of each straight side of the mask. |
