1,104,554. Pipe couplings. O. H. DRAGER (trading as DRAGERWERK HEINR. & BERNH. DRAGER). 18 Feb., 1966 [20 Feb., 1965], No. 7325/66. Heading F2G. A coupling device for connecting gas pipes comprises a base 4 for mounting in a wall, a conduit formed by bores 3 and 6 extending through the base and connected at one end to a gas pipe 13, a coupling half 1 of a plug and socket coupling, which half is removably mounted in said base and is connected to the other end of said conduit and which incorporates a valve that automatically closes on removal of the other coupling half, and a supplementary valve connected in said conduit and closable to prevent gas flow through said conduit. The socket half 1 of the plug and socket coupling has a tube 2 removably received in the bore 3. The said tube 2 is sealed in said bore by an O-ring 14 which is compressed, on tightening of three screws 19 (only one being shown), by axial movement of a flange 18 and a chamfered sleeve 16, said screws being reached through apertures in the socket coupling half. Prior to removal of the socket, the valve 7, whioh comprises a grub screw 8 and valve disc 11, is screwed down to close communication between the gas pipe and socket, access to the screw 8 again being obtained through an aperture 21 in the socket. In a modification, the supplementary valve may be constructed so that it closes automatically on removal of the socket. |
