<p>The lathe has work carrying spindles in a rotary indexable drum. Adjacent the drum are tool slides (14) transversely adjustable w.r.t. the spindle axes. Tool wear compensation is effected by an electrical stepping motor (19) on the slide (14). Slide adjustment by the motor is controlled by a device which is responsive to finished workpiece size. When workpiece dimensions reach tolerance limits the motor is actuated when the slide is retracted and the tool out of contact with the workpiece. A screw mechanism is used to adjust the slide relative to its base and drive from the stepping motor is via toothed belts (25, 26).</p> |
