1457339 Promoting weight gain in livestock ROUSSEL-UCLAF 8 Nov 1974 [9 Nov 1973] 48512/74 Heading ASB Zootechnical or veterinary compositions for promoting weight gains in livestock contain an anabolic steroid of the general formula wherein R represents C 1-4 alkyl, X represents a hydrogen atom, C 1-8 alkyl, C 2-6 unsaturated hydrocarbyl radical, C 2-8 alkxyalkyl, C 3 _ 7 cycloalkyl, or an acyl radical derived from a C 1-12 organic carboxylic acid, and Y represents a saturated or unsaturated C 1-6 hydrocarbyl radical, optionally substituted by halogen atom, a C 1 _ 8 alkoxy or a C 3-7 cycloalkyl radical (excluding steroids wherein X represents a hydrogen atom, Y represents a propadienyl and R represents a methyl, ethyl or n-propyl radical); together with an estrogenic steroid of the general formula wherein R 1 represents hydrogen, C 1-5 alkyl, or C 3-7 cycloalkyl; A represents hydrogen or a C 1 _ 4 #-alkoxy radical; R' represents a C 1-4 alkyl radical; X 1 represents hydrogen, a C 1 _ 6 alkyl radical, or the acyl residue of an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic organic carboxylic or carbonic acad having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; and Y 1 represents hydrogen, methyl, ethynyl or a haloethynyl radical. A preferred composition contains 17#-hydroxy-17α-methylestra-4, 9, 11-trien-3-one and estriadiol. The compositions may be administered orally or transcutaneously in the form of tablets, coated tablets,, sublingual tablets, pills, capsiuiles cachets, powders, syrups, solutions, suspensions, elixirs, or implants. |
